Weeklong Workshops at Minnesota Street Project

NEW THIS YEAR

Weeklong Workshops at Minnesota Street Project

New this year are three weeklong workshops at SFArtsED's Gallery at Minnesota Street Project offering non-traditional theater-making, fashion/art design and puppet movie making.

First, we'll collaborate with SF Neo-Futurists on a play-making workshop from June 10-14 using the principles of Neo-Futurism: we don’t play characters, we don’t pretend to be in a different time or place, and we involve the audience as active participants instead of passive observers. It's an all-levels class—whether you’ve been doing school plays forever or have never performed before, this class is for you!

Then, from July 22-26, our fashion guru, Tiersa Nureyev explores the intersection of fashion and art, taking inspiration from the fashion design of Martin Margiela in all its deconstructed, avant garde glory and the intricate monochromatic sculpture/assemblage of Louise Nevelson. Students will create fabulous garments made from repurposed materials including up-cycled clothing and textiles that blur the line between Object D’art and ready-to-wear garments. The work from this class will be shown in a fashion show/exhibit at Minnesota Street Project.

And then, from July 29-August 2, puppet master Ramon Abad welcomes all future filmmakers and storytellers to make their own short video with puppets of their own making. Students will design and hand make their own puppets and write, direct and act in their own puppet videos.

The age range for each workshop varies. For the first session with SF Neo-Futurists, it's 12-16; for the second session with Tiersa Nureyev, it's 10-15; for Ramon's Puppet Movie Studio, it's 10-14.
